Analysing Romantic Comedy Opening Sequences - 'The Hating Game'
The next romantic comedy I will be looking at and analysing is 'The Hating Game'.
- Firstly, a wide shot is used to introduce the main protagonists
- The protagonist's desks are far apart and are decorated very differently in order to show the audience that the protagonist have contradicting personalities, which is a common storyline in romantic comedy films
- There is upbeat background music throughout to highlight the light atmosphere of a typical romantic comedy
- The opening sequence shows the protagonist similarities in their mannerisms to show the audience that although their character types are contradicting they still have similarities; this is typical of a romantic comedy film
- High-key lighting is used throughout to further highlight the light atmosphere
- The use of a voiceover is to explain more about the main protagonists and their personality traits
- Lower case letters are used in the titles which is typical of romantic comedies
