Opening Sequences and Settings - 'The Shining'

The first film I will be looking at which introduces the setting is the horror film 'The Shining'.

• The setting is isolated; this is shown through big vast mountains and wide shots
• The setting comes across as uninhabited, this is shown through the lack of cars and people throughout a large plot of land
• The setting is vast, this is shown through a range of wide shots
• The setting is presented as threatening/scary, this is shown through the sinister background music
• The setting is snowy, this is shown on the mountains when there is snow whereas there isn't snow in any of the other settings that are shown
